First Sunday of Advent - Rays of Violet

We got this hottie on our way to church this morning as we celebrate the 1st Sunday of Advent. Perhaps this gorgeous gentleman was on his way to church, too. The simple and casual elegance of a gray jacket (so expertly fitted to his trim frame), and violet dress shirt (the color of the season of Advent, no less) let him be dressed appropriately for church, or brunch, or shopping, or almost anything else. He's quite the handsome fellow!

There are multiple takes on how we are called to celebrate the season of Advent. Wikipedia has a very simple description that includes "...a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas." Another take is the command from clergy for gay people to pack their schedules with choir rehearsals, choir performances, to chair meetings, to staff services and do a plethora of other last minute and critical church events so that straight people can slow down and be contemplative and reflective during Advent. We have a hunch you're familiar with the latter practice.

And how are we celebrating Advent? In our own style... we're signed up for the Santa Speedo Run in London next Saturday!

Thanksgiving Feast

Chestnuts are roasting over an open fire here at HOTT Headquarters, and after two days of feasting we bring you a feast of a hottie. Elegantly poised and deliciously attired, our hottie prepares for the upcoming holiday season. And our HOTT Crew has been doing more than roasting chestnuts over an open fire...
...we were the special guests of Gloucester Mayor Carolyn Kirk for the building of their world-famous Glosta Lobsta Trap Christmas Tree! What a treat for us, and what a glorious day on Cape Ann.

Fabulous Friday - Fabulous Fur

Oh the contortions we went through to get this handsome man's pic! And he's perfectly turned out for this snowy Day-After-Thanksgiving. Seeing him sitting across from us we knew we just had to get a picture, but he kept watching us intently, making it most difficult to surreptitiously capture his smiling visage. But our HOTT Crew will not to be thwarted in our quest to bring you your daily hottie on the T. We activated the photo app, stood up to exit the train at a station (several stations before where we actually wanted to exit), held our finger down on the iPhone's camera shutter and fired away with the phone upside down as we nonchalantly disembarked. The results were stunning! And a perfect find for our Fabulous Friday!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our conductor above exemplifies the very best of the MBTA/MBCR. Personable, extraordinarily helpful, pleasant and kind. Despite the packed trains he succeeded in making the holiday trip a special journey for each passenger. So we take a moment on this special day to give thanks to all the hard working staff of the MBTA and MBCR who make it possible to spend time with family and friends!

Thanksgiving is a special time for everyone on the HOTT Crew. It arrives at a poignant time of year as the trees stand newly shorn of their leaves, the days have shrunk to what seems like a few hours of light between the two darknesses, and the chill in the air hints ominously of what's to come. And as the nation stops, we gather together just as a band of haggard Pilgrims in a new land once did... to offer their thanks to God.

Sonja Henie's Tutu!

What chaos on the T today! What pandemonium! What crowds! So crowded and cheek-to-jowl that our HOTT Crew had difficulty getting pics of the hot men. Yet one of our team pulled through with this stunning gentleman above. A respite of calm and courage in a scene of utter despair and hopelessness.

Yes, you had to experience the Red Line this morning, at both northern and southern sections, to understand the travails the T put into our travels! Trains inoperable and no shuttles on the northern section, while trains were colliding on the southern section. GB and FT simply gave up and took a cab to work.

And the reference to "Sonja Henie's Tutu!" is related to our HOTT Headquarters being located at Car Talk Plaza. Car Talk fans fondly remember the exclamatory cry from Click & Clack, "Sonja Henie's Tutu!".

Double Tuesday - Facial Fur

Well-groomed facial hair can be so alluring on men. And our hotties above show off their grooming skills with aplomb! Hottie on the left goes for a more casual approach, combining the best of tech-style with a wee bit of Lumbersexual flannel in the mix. Hottie on the right has an au courant look with quilted jacket, jeans and street shoes. Both have lovely beards!

Monday is Funday

What to wear on an unsettled day? How about what our hottie above has chosen! Combining the best of casual wear with the best of business attire, our hottie is prepared for whatever winter weather may suddenly descend upon us. And the topcoat and facial hair are glorious!

Speaking of topcoats, we want to thank everyone for acting on our recommendation in our Winter Coat Update last week to buy a topcoat from Burberry. Our Burberry stock has soared 4% in value since that post! Bless you, one and all!

Hints of Orange

How appropriate that our hottie on the Orange Line had hints of orange on his day pack straps. His attire is quite fitting for a cold and casual weekend, and the lack of crowds on the train helped add to the ambience.

We don't capture enough hotties on the Orange Line, and were thrilled that a friend of our HOTT Crew (HikerLegs) got this shot for us. HikerLegs is accustomed to walking the aisles of the friendly skies, so this sitting-down view was a new angle for him!

The Game

We've been at the #HarvardYale game, and so has our hottie! Blustery and cold, it was worth it to see Harvard win 31 - 24 in the 131st meeting of "the game". And our hottie above has his game on for The Game by wearing a piped down jacket with lime green zipper highlights that make him easy to find in a crowded train or stadium.

Fabulous Friday - Good to the Last Touch

What a fabulously sexy jacket! Just look at the textures and patterns and how well they compliment our gorgeous hottie! And our man is reading a book! Swooooon! We so wanted to reach out and touch him!
An lesser known fact about textured gray fabrics is that they pair so well with so many colors. Besides being a magnificent companion to tans and earth tone colors, gray does exceptionally well with brilliant red highlights, such as the zippered pocket on the sleeve of our hottie's jacket (best seen in the top photo).
Last, but not least, as we prepare for the Thanksgiving Holiday we've received news from our friend Mave that she's embarking on an extended retro off-the-grid road trip across "this great country I call home". No cell phone, no text messages, no email. Just a newly restored 1959 Chevrolet Impala (above in front of her home), some postage stamps (for postcards and letters to send to us) and lots of quarters for the occasional phone booth. We wish her well and will scan any photos we receive from Mave as she journeys across this vast continent!

Scarf Him Up

A scarf can accentuate the handsome qualities of a man. The certain style in which the scarf is wrapped. The color and texture and how it interplays with the coat. The accentuation it gives to freshly moisturized facial skin with an expertly close groom. What a handsome complement to our commute!

Topcoat Wednesday

We had no idea our 3rd Annual Winter Coat Update would be so popular! And many of you have heeded our advice on purchasing the Burberry Prorsum Topcoat... our Burberry stock is up 2.8% this week! Our HOTT Crew is is going to be rich!!!!

http://hottiesonthet.blogspot.com/2014/11/3rd-annual-winter-coat-update.html

And our hottie above is looking elegantly warm with his well-textured topcoat with shawl-collared bib. Simply stunning! And you can look stunning, too, with this (below) J Press York Street Herringbone patterned topcoat from Nordstrom (NYSE: JYN).

As we mentioned in our Winter Coat Update, the new style in coats is longer and fuller, with patterns in herringbone and glen plaid. The Wall Street Journal reported last week that holiday pricing will be at its lowest on the Sunday and Monday prior to Thanksgiving, not on Black Friday or the following weekend. Perhaps a coat shopping trip this upcoming weekend is in order!

Double Tuesday - Magic in Bloom

Brilliant colors, hints of professions, and a shopping excursion illuminate our hottie duo today. Hottie on the right brightens up his wardrobe with a caduceus (frequently used in the United States as a symbol of the medical profession) and a heart. And he also is toting a very colorful shopping bag. Meanwhile, hottie on the left is in rapt attention to our gent on the right and is tastefully attired in warm weekend Autumnal clothing. We rather like the contrasting selection of shoes, too!

When it Rains it Pours

It's a washout of a day, but we must confess there are some stunningly wet hotties on the T on this beautiful rainy Monday! And the rain drops couldn't dampen than good looks of our Economist-reading hottie. Dark well-groomed hair with ever so subtle undertones of silver. A topcoat (swoon) with a drape worthy of the finest of English aristocrats! He was so content and happy and well-prepared that we couldn't help but take his pic!

Lumbersexual

He's our first sighting of a Lumbersexual! We're delighted to report that Lumbersexuals have migrated to New England from the Rocky Mountain states.  Our hottie above regales riders on our bus with his luxuriant and finely coiffed beard, and keeps ruggedly warm with his practical, yet stylishly quilted Eider Down jacket. A cherry red wrist watch tells the time while working off the grid, while pearly white iPhone ear pods keep one up to date on the latest tunes.

And what is a Lumbersexual?
Lubersexual, above left. Metrosexual, above right.

While a metrosexual is a young man  with money to spend - living within the city (because that's where all the best shops, clubs, gyms, and hair dressers are) and has clearly taken himself as his own love object and pleasure as his sexual preference, a lumbersexual is quite different. How so?

A lumbersexual refers to himself as "rugged" despite spending 20 minutes each morning grooming his facial hair.

Lumbersexuals graciously cut people some slack, typically with a vintage hatchet from Colorado.

Lumbersexuals are prone to adorn their walls with bear traps yet are unable to bring themselves to carve a Thanksgiving turkey because it "looks too real".

Lumber sexual high fashion is wearing a woodsman jacket to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store.

We could go on and on, but that might obscure the fact that we adore watching men in plaid with copious amounts of facial hair. We feel stylish and secure with lumbersexuals onboard our train!

And we update on January 20, 2014. Meredith Goldstein at the Boston Globe is reporting that some Lumbersexuals have... aroma in their beards. Her video is below. All we can tell you is that we do not feature Lumbersexuals with malodorous beards.

3rd Annual Winter Coat Update!

Elegant in his gray wool topcoat with a matching gray cashmere scarf to protect him against the rush of the wintry winds, our hottie sets a fashion statement with his expertly trimmed sideburns, smoother than smooth shave, and, of course, The New York Times. And he's the perfect man to feature in our annual Autumn fashion update on winter coats!

A friend of the HOTT Crew, renowned fashion designer Dries van Noten, has said it so well, "A man's coat is ever the one piece that will define his entire look."

And this year's mantra in winter coat selection is longer and fuller, namely an update of the versatile topcoat. Topcoats made with wool and cashmere blends, Herringbone and Glen Plaid designs, and featuring soft colors of tans, grays and blues instead of monochrome blacks.

Below are some samples of our HOTT Crews' favorite topcoats for 2014/2015!
Above left is one of our favorites, the Burberry Prorsum double breasted cashmere topcoat. It features a flattering fit and, being a British design, also features an amazing spread in gentle breezes. If Jane Austen's Darcy were alive today he'd wear this coat! And we own a lot of Burberry stock, so please, get out those charge cards and head to Burberry!

Above right is another favorite, the Louis Vuitton wool and cashmere blend topcoat featuring broad geometric designs that give it a touch of edge and a warm classic feel.

We've also found that J Crew has gorgeous topcoats that feature the newest trends in colors and designs, and offer a very affordable option when looking for a top coat that will offer years of service. Above left is the Ludlow English wool topcoat with a herringbone pattern. Simply stunning! And above right is the Ludlow French wool that ramps up the fashion with its peaked lapels. Another stunner of a topcoat!

Our HOTT Crew strongly encourages men to invest now in a quality topcoat featuring these new trends. Mens winter coat styles run in phases of approximately 8 years (remember the leather jackets starting in the late '90's or the pea coats that were the rage up until last winter?) and investing in a topcoat now will keep you warm, handsome and stylish without having to change styles for many years to come.

Fabulous Friday - Filson Man

Timeless accessories can really make the man. An elegance and simplicity that accentuates one's masculinity. Such as with our hottie above. Notice the classic clean lines of his leather briefcase and how it adds a sultry sensuousness to our hottie's well-groomed facial hair and clean lines of his hair style. He's adorably sexy!

And speaking of leather briefcases, our HOTT Crew were thrilled that renowned luxury mens outfitter Filson sent us 2 of their Leather Field Satchels (below). Filson, renowned in the Pacific Northwest for over a century, has been the briefcase of choice for Manhattan men for the past 5 years.
The Filson Leather Field Satchel has impressed us a great deal. The fit and finish is remarkable. Definitely a satchel we'll use every day due to it's fine craftsmanship and durable good looks.

The Kwonut

Today our HOTT Crew sampled the Croissant Donut from Dunkin Donuts for the very first time. And like the Croissant Donut, our hottie above is solid and well built. Not a dainty affair like the French counterpart, both the Croissant Donut and our hottie today have a beefier, more robust build.

And how was the Croissant Donut? Well, to be honest it was like eating a slightly denser and chewier Krispy Kreme glazed yeast donut. We really didn't detect any buttery bouquet as one would with a classic croissant. The finish (after the donut had been swallowed) was a pervasive sugar syrup sensation. It's a fine donut, yet the price tag of $2.49 is overpriced for comparable items from other donut purveyors. We've begun referring to it as the Kwonut (Kwahsant + Donut = Kwonut).

Fabulous Friday - The Beard

Today we get to learn about the men behind Hotties on the T! We swoon when we see men with beards! Facial hair beards, that is. And our gentleman above has a luscious academic-style beard and snuggly hooded sweatshirt. He's adorable!

Yesterday our HOTT Crew noticed quite a bit of traffic from Reddit. A Reddit user named "drascus" was disseminating quite a bit of misinformation about our blog. He knew of the blog only due to his "female friends who upload photos to it". Basically, he was trying to convince everyone that all of the pictures here are posted by women, not men. So, Drascus, below are the 5 MEN who run this blog and take all of the photos (and we do not accept submissions of any kind!):

1. FT is Executive in charge of production. Oh he's everywhere!
2. FTH is our Executive in charge of diversity casting and Twitter (@hottiesonthet). Red Line.
3. GB is our Executive layout editor for the blog and Facebook. Green Line/Blue Line.
4. Undercover RM is our Executive for social events. Red Line/Orange Line.
5. Nippy is our Executive for suburban affairs. Commuter Rail/Commuter Bus.

And last, but not least, it's almost 2015. There's no need to use "female friends" as beards to cover up the fact that you like looking at the pics of men on our blog!

Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind.
It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) bright sunshiny day.

Rainy weather has finally passed us by, yet our hottie is prepared for the blustery season. And looks so good, too!

French Toast Alert!

We're experiencing our first snow of the season, and our hottie heats things up with classic good looks and a grey-flannel color fleece jacket to ward off the wintry chill.

Location: Red Line at Park
Imagined Profession: Revenue Analyst

And for those not from here "French Toast Alert" is a type of weather forecast involving snow that serves as a warning to residents that they should stock up on milk and eggs before the stores are emptied by panicked shoppers. We stocked up yesterday and made a dish we recently learned how to make in France, French Toast a la Provence. It's a French take on an American dish that has no relation to French cuisine... until this recipe was created! Below is the finished dish on our heirloom breakfast table at HOTT Headquarters in Harvard Square. We like this recipe because we can make French Toast for up to 8 people without having to constantly be grilling on the stove!
French Toast a la Provence

Things you'll need:

12" cast iron skillet . The French DO NOT use teflon skillets!
5 large egs
2 cups whole milk
1 tablespoon granulated cane suger
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 1/2 cups lightly packed sourdough bread cubed into 3/4 inch pieces.
5 slices thickly cut bacon, sliced into 1/2 pieces
3 large Granny Smith apples
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons light brown sugar mixed with 1 tablespoon maple syrup

Preheat oven to 375F

Mix first 6 ingredients in a bowl. Then add bread cubes and stir thoroughly until mixed.

Peel, core and then slice apples into 10 sections each.

Cook bacon on medium heat, stirring occasionally until browned. Scoop out bacon and put in a bowl by itself. Pour out all but 1 tablespoon of bacon fat from skillet. Add butter (skillet still on medium heat) and then stir in light brown sugar and maple syrup.

Add sliced apples evenly on skillet and let caramelize for 10 mins.

Sprinkle half of the bacon on top of apples. Pour on bread mixture evenly across apples. Sprinkle remaining bacon on top.

Place skillet in oven for 30 mins. Remove, flip onto serving dish immediately and then let sit for 5 minutes to firm up.

Slice and serve warm with maple syrup or save for later and reheat in microwave.

Serves 6 to 8 people!

Singing in the Rain

We're having a spell of rainy weather, and a very dreary weekend. Yet FTH captured hope amongst the raindrops with this stunningly gorgeous hottie. Earbuds in place, this gent was swinging to the sounds on his way to work!

Rain was not going to deter our hottie from being impeccably dressed.  Brilliantly shiny black dress shoes, navy suit, and perfectly positioned and proportioned navy umbrella with just the right amount of yellow highlights to make his ensemble pop! This hottie was literally singing in the rain!
