The Empire is Back!

We were up late last night watching the Olympics (how about that entrance by the paratrooper Queen with our super hero James Bond!), then had to choose our first cocktail recipe to be featured in our "Cocktails of the British Empire" series, and now we're watching the Olympic Men's Road Race (cycling)  while preparing to dart out the door for a 50 mile bike ride to Cape Ann. Phew!

Above, our hottie is showing his stuff decked out in trendy street wear. We think he's pretty cool. And quite yummy. Simple, yet stylish. Blue jeans and black t-shirt. Kind of an urban ode to Steve Jobs. We like it!

Recipe #1 in the Cocktails of the British Empire series:

The Queen Elizabeth II

After reading through state papers, consulting with diplomats and dignitaries, and then skydiving into an Olympic stadium with an audience of 1 billion people it's nice to kick back with something that soothes the nerves and serves as a bookend to the day.

1.5 ounces Ransom Gin (Old Tom Style)
0.75 ounces Dubonnet Rouge
1 lemon twist

Add into mixing glass. Fill with ice and shake (don't stir!) until well chilled. Strain and serve in a cocktail glass. Enjoy while gazing at James Bond.
